Industrial Update: Real-World Applications & Winter Checks

Just a quick update from the industrial side this month.

We’ve got a couple of good on-the-ground applications from over in Australia - showing how John Deere and Yanmar engines are performing out in the field. There are also a few practical reminders in here, especially with winter now well and truly here. As always, if anything comes up or you want to run something past us, just give us a call.

Product Spotlight: Eniquest Ranger 8000 Diesel Generator

The Eniquest Ranger 8000 is an 8kVA diesel generator built for real-world use - think on-site, for pumping, or as backup power alongside solar systems. It’s compact, enclosed, and designed to be easy to transport and install.

What stands out is the simplicity. It uses a permanent magnet alternator with no AVR, removing a common failure point, and delivers clean, stable power with strong motor starting capability. Powered by a Yanmar industrial engine, it’s built to run efficiently and handle long hours as and when needed.

Firmus Group

Working Tough: John Deere in the Field.

From our mates over in Australia.

Firmus Group (a vacuum truck and trailer specialist) are building vacuum tanker trailers powered by the John Deere 4045T. In short, they’re designed to handle everything from agriculture through to civil and industrial work.

These engines are being used in demanding real-world conditions - long hours, varying loads, and very often in tough environments (heat, dust etc). These setups are built to keep operating day in, day out, with the engine doing the heavy lifting across three core functions - pumping systems, hydraulics, and transport functions.

It’s a neat example of how OEMs are building around proven engine platforms, not just for performance, but for reliability, serviceability, and ongoing support. And on-the-ground it shows bullet-proof John Deere is - ideal where uptime matters and equipment just needs to get on with the job.

Staying with our Aussie theme.

Aussie Pumps are a well-established Sydney-based manufacturer, known for building fire-fighting and high-pressure pump systems designed specifically for Aussie conditions.
They’ve built a strong reputation over the years by focusing on practical, hard-working equipment that’s used across agriculture, civil projects, and emergency response.

Across a lot of their range, they’ve standardised on Yanmar engines. It’s a pretty straightforward call, they’re reliable, efficient, and well suited to equipment that’s expected to start first time and run without issues.

These pumps are out there being used every day - on farms, civil sites, or in emergency situations like fires. When the gear’s needed, it needs to work, simple as that. And another  good example of how Yanmar is being used in practical, real-world industrial applications.

 

Winter Generator Maintenance

Winter Generator Maintenance Checklist

Winter places extra demands on standby generators. A few simple maintenance checks can help ensure a generator starts first time and delivers reliable power when it's needed most.

  1. Check the Fuel System
    Inspect fuel tanks for water, sludge and contamination, and keep tanks topped up to reduce condensation that can lead to fuel issues in cold weather.

  2. Protect Diesel Fuel
    Use a quality winter diesel additive to help prevent fuel gelling, improve cold-weather starting and keep fuel flowing in low temperatures.

  3. Change to Winter-Grade Engine Oil
    Replace old oil with the manufacturer's recommended winter-grade lubricant and fit a new oil filter to improve cold-start performance.

  4. Test the Battery
    Cold temperatures reduce battery performance. Check voltage, clean battery terminals and replace weak batteries before they fail.

  5. Check Coolant Levels
    Ensure coolant and antifreeze provide adequate protection for the lowest expected temperatures, and inspect the cooling system for leaks or worn hoses.

  6. Inspect Electrical Connections
    Look for loose terminals, corrosion or moisture that could affect reliability and tighten or replace components where required.

  7. Exercise the Generator
    Run the generator under load for 20–30 minutes each month to confirm it's operating correctly and ready to perform during a power outage.

  8. Replace Dirty Air Filters
    Clean or replace air filters to maintain proper airflow, improve engine efficiency and protect internal components.

  9. Keep the Exhaust Clear
    Check exhaust outlets regularly and remove any snow, leaves or debris that could restrict airflow or create a safety hazard.

A Little Preparation Goes a Long Way

Routine servicing and preventative maintenance are the best ways to maximise reliability, reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns and ensure a generator is ready to perform when it's needed most.
